Brake assembly inspection
Integration of a 100% final inspection into the production line for the manufacture of truck brake callipers. This involves verifying the presence and correct position of the fitted parts. After completing the last manual work step, the operator initiates the inspection by
pressing a button. More than 30 versions of the brake callipers are produced on the production line. The lighting conditions in the plant can fluctuate significantly over the course of the day, especially with a multiple shift system. Reliable inspection needs to be guaranteed in these changing conditions.
An assembly inspection machine vision solution based on Insight-3000 has brought about outstanding reliability in inspection. Automatic adjustments makes the inspections largely independent of fluctuations in the ambient brightness. When the inspection is initiated manually, cameras inspect more than 15 criterias & positions. They verify the presence and correct position of screws, springs, rating plates and wear indicators.
In addition, the position of a symbol is verified and the correct number of colour markings checked. To perform this task, robust machine vision tools from our standard library and several decentrally positioned cameras are used. The current component type is communicated to the machine vision system via the serial interface and the corresponding inspection program is then loaded. The inspection result is displayed by an indicator light and texts relating to any errors on the screen.
Thanks to automatic brightness adjustment and the fact that the inspection is not affected by slight variations in the position of the component, the system achieves outstanding reliability. The user interface designed by OCTUM allows any errors that occur to be located very quickly and the cause to be resolved in the process.
