The Motek in Stuttgart (international trade fair for production and assembly automation) has closed the doors - time for a little summary.

In the production of car engine parts, the cast aluminium parts are given a dot peen data matrix code. This is designed to ensure traceability after production and to allow the parts to be tracked in the plant during the actual manufacturing processes. A robust reading system that can reliably read dot peen codes is required to read the data for the company’s operational data capture system.
The Cognex In-Sight 5110 represents a reading system with outstanding software for the most difficult applications. Application-specific planning for each reading station enabled excellent read rates to be achieved. The systems comply with protection class IP67 and, for use in casting cells, are installed in an air-cooled housing along with the lighting.
Station-specific planning allows codes of low quality to be read. There is no need for constant adjustment and time-consuming manual intervention. The systems operate with high reliability and have low susceptibility for faults, guaranteeing traceability of the parts.
