The Motek in Stuttgart (international trade fair for production and assembly automation) has closed the doors - time for a little summary.

In production of plastic sealing rings, parts with under moulding or overmoulding (webbing) cannot be ruled out. To prevent defective parts from being delivered to a car manufacturer, a machine vision system is required.
After injection moulding, the parts are placed on an opaque transparent belt. The belt is automatically cleaned so that no dirt can occur, which could lead to errors with the machine vision. The CV-600 machine vision system processes two independent tracks, each with a backlighting camera setup. With a sealing ring diameter of around 60 mm, faults on the contour of 0.05 mm elliptical variation and 0.3 mm length can be reliably detected. The saved statistical data provides valuable information for optimising the manufacturing process.
With the manufactured quantity of over 5000 parts per hour, manual inspection is extremely expensive and reliable sorting of defective parts cannot be guaranteed. The use of the machine vision system ensures that only 100% inspected good parts will be sent to the customer.
