Measurement of connector pins and inspection of contact surfaces
With automatic placement of contacts in an assembly system, bent or twisted contacts can occur. At the same time, it is essential to ensure that the contact surfaces / bonding surfaces are free of overmoulding and impurities. These faults need to be identified after assembly and the relevant parts rejected.
The inspection is performed with two cameras, which provide the required precision in production. LED light illumination ensures a good contrast of the pin tips for measuring the position of the connector pins and of the contact surfaces for the inspection. Robust edge detection algorithms are used for the measurement. The contact surfaces are inspected using adaptive grey value algorithms so that the normal fluctuations in the production process do not influence the results. The accuracy of the measurement meets the customer’s requirements at ±0.02mm.
The machine vision solution installed is an integral component of the 0 ppm fault strategy and performs a key function. Automatic measurement and inspection using machine vision means that faults are reliably detected and costly complaints are thus avoided.
