On May 19, 2026, the 21st meeting of the VDMA “Machine Learning” expert group took place in Frankfurt. The focus was on current topics relating to machine learning, industrial applications, and the meaningful use of AI in technical processes.
Our colleague Madlyn Götz gave a presentation entitled “Lessons Learned – AI in Visual Inspection.” Among other topics, she addressed the development of AI systems in industrial machine vision, typical misconceptions that can cause AI projects to fail, and good-practice methods for increasing the success rate of AI projects. Madlyn says about the event: “It was a very informative day. What I found particularly interesting was the exchange on different areas of application and current challenges of AI in industry.”
Visual inspection in particular shows that AI is not a self-running solution. Successful projects require realistic objectives, suitable image data, clear evaluation criteria, and a solid understanding of the production process.
Many thanks to the VDMA for organizing the event and for the valuable technical exchange with the participants.
